Daqin Railway Co. Ltd is engaged in the operation of a proprietary railway system for coal transport. The company has three main railway sections including the Beijing to Baotou section, the Datong to Taiyuan section and the Datong to Qinhuangdao section, as well as four local branch sections including Kouquan, Yungang, Ningke and Pingsu, which connect the local railways in Shenshuo, Dazhun, Ningjing and Jigang and cross Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi Province and Heibei Provinces. Daqin railway was the first railway established for the specific purpose of coal transportation. Being the main pipline for exporting coal from Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia, it is also the major carrier for four national power plants, the top ten steel companies and 6000 industrial and mineral enterprises. Its annual transportation volume is 260 million tons, with a 15% market share in its industry and exerting economic influence in 26 provinces in China and 15 nations in the world. It has 40,728 staff and the total length of railways under the company’s management is 3,185 kilometres.
