Coal Sales for 1H 2008 Up 17.7% YOY

The company announced on 16 July 2008 that its coal sales for 1H 2008 totaled 115.1 mln tons, a 17.7% increase YOY compared to 97.8 mln tons in the same period of 2007. Sales in June were 19 mln tons.

The announcement indicates that the company exported 10.6 mln tons of coal in the 1H 2008, a decrease of 13.1% YOY. Of the 10.6 mln tons of coal exported, 2 mln tons were exported in June.

For 1H 2008, its output of coal was 89.6 mln tons, up 17% YOY. 14.7 mln tons of coal were mined in June and its total electricity output was 47.4 bln kWh, an increase of 31.6% YOY while its total electricity sales were 44.14 bln kWh, up 31% YOY.

The company-owned railway delivered 62.5 bln ton-kilometers, in terms of coal transport turnover, in 1H 2008, up 10.4% YOY. The total water-transport volume increased by 7.8% to 69.1 mln tons from 64.1 mln tons in the first-half of 2007. Of the amount, Huanghua Port's transport volume increased by 4.5% to 41.6 mln tons and the coal terminal of Tianjin Port transported 11.2 mln tons, increasing by 21.7%.

Shenhua Group Corp., Ltd., its parent company, produced 132.39 mln tons of raw coal in 1H 2008, increasing by 16% from the same period in 2007, while coal sale reached 154.7 mln tons, up 14% from a year earlier. The group's total railway transport volume increased by 9% YOY, or 7.93 mln tons, to 100.37 mln tons.
