In a statement filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company announced on 5 Aug 2008 that it plans to establish Zhangjiakou Thermoelectric Company, with an investment of RMB 580 mln, to construct and operate thermoelectric projects in Zhangjiakou. Total investment in the Zhangjiakou thermoelectric projects is RMB 2.9 bln, which will be derived from the registered capital of Zhangjiakou Thermoelectric Company and from loans provided by third parties.

The Zhangjiakou thermoelectric projects will be located in a hi-tech area in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, with two 300 MW coal-fired heating units. With the completion of the projects, the pressure of heating demand in the central part of Zhangjiakou will be eased. The projects were approved in July 2008 by the National Development and Reform Commission.
