Petroleum and electricity prices have seen a sudden rise in mainland China, but electricity used in farming will be exempted from the price hike. As a result, stocks in the agriculture and alternative energy sectors were highly favored by the market on 20 June 2008.

China Agri-Industries Holdings Ltd (0606), which is engaged in the biofuel business, rose 4% to HKD 5.51, while volume rose to 8.71 mln shares. Green Global Resources Limited (0061), which is engaged in agro-conservation and bioenergy, rose 6.2% and was quoted at HKD 0.12 per share at press time. Turnover volume was 646,000 shares.
